Stanley Kunitz (1905-2006) was an American poet and teacher, known for his lyrical and introspective style. He was born in Massachusetts and grew up in a working-class family. Kunitz published his first collection of poems, “Intellectual Things,” in 1930 and went on to publish over 20 books of poetry throughout his career. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1959 for his collection “Selected Poems, 1928-1958.” Kunitz also served as the Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress twice, in 1974 and 2000.
